Updating 89-93 Saab 9000 for Cooler Radiator Fan Switch
by Andrews Inc. of Princeton

Many 9000's in this vintage have a problem with the radiator cooling fan not coming on soon enough or problems with the 2-speed fan function (blown fuses, melted relays, etc.) One solution is to replace the 2 or 3 wire fan thermo switch with the older style which can be purchased in the 77/82 deg. Centigrade form. If your car has a 2-wire switch already in it (manual trans.), the only thing you have to do is replace the fan switch in the radiator (pn#8569238B), cut the old wires right at the switch and install two female spade connectors to attach to the new fan switch. If your car is equipped with an automatic transmission, you must first cut off the wires as close to the old fan switch as possible, turn the blue wire back into the harness and tape so it can't touch anything, and connect the remaining white and black wires as above with the two female spade connectors to the newly installed fan switch. This operation will disable the high speed fan (blue wire) and allow the fan to come on somewhere in the middle of the gauge range so you won't have to worry about whether or not that fan is really going to come on the next time you are sitting in traffic! (Be sure to try this at home in the drive to ensure proper function before you get to that traffic jam!)
